Abstract

Berners-Lee says that the information in the Semantic Web is expressed with well-defined meanings, enabling computers and people to work in cooperation. But reasoning about real world and digital world at the same time is a complex activity that incorporates multiple reasoning strategies, different structures and elements that belong to different languages. So Semantic Web knowledge representation formalisms consist of different kinds of logics in different kinds of representation formats. Therefore the useful construction of ontologies has become difficult because there are many aspects involved such as description logic, classification systems, object oriented data structure and markup languages. We explain each kind of knowledge representation in the Semantic Web and their relationship with different formats with examples from Protégé, a graphical ontology-development tool.
